But soon, very soon, everyone is going to be looking for more information about this Mayan prophesied year of destiny, which many believe to be the end of the Mayan calendar and thus the end of time, as we have known it. Let’s look at this calendar and this specific date more closely. The Long Count Calendar Actually, it all began with a discovery that has been known for decades about the culture that invented what is known as the Long Count Calendar. On the Pacific coastal plain of Chiapas, Mexico, a few miles from the Guatemala border, the astrological observatory of the Izapa civilization was located. Some believe that the Izapa were the transitional culture between the older Olmec civilization and the emerging Maya; others believe the Izapa were the Olmecs. For almost a thousand years the Izapa recorded the Long Count Calendar on monuments and ceramic vessels. Most of the dates refer to local, mundane events, like the crowning of a specific king. There are some conflicts on when the Universal cycle begins. One idea says the Universal will start on February 10th, 2011 and each cycle is 20 days each day/night period based on the 365 days year. The creation cycle is not “really” based on time. Time is assigned to it so we know where we are in it. The other says that it will begin on march 8th, 2011 and be 18 days each day/night. I lean towards the March 8th one now since 360/20 is 18 and March 8th + 234 days is 10/28/2011. Some people don’t acknowledge the Universal cycle OR say it STARTS on 11/11/11 and try to time it with the Haab calendar to end on Dec, 21st 2012. That is just not true. They are two totally independent ideas of the passage of time and description of creation. The creation cycle ENDS on 10/28/11 then the ascension process ENDS 13 days after on 11/11/11. Haab 12/21/2012=astrological events/end of procession of equinox cycle of 26000 years involving TIME. Creation cycle 11/11/11=human, evolution and CREATION. They are INDEPENDENT of each other. One describes TIME. The other describes a PROCESS and put it in terms of time so we would grasp the concept and be aware of what’s happening.
